Opening hearings, the Committee Chairman Hryhoriy Kaletnik noted in particular that significant work on establishment of conditions for effective development of agro-industry has been done by state authorities and agrarian science for the years of independence of Ukraine.

According to rapporteurs, scientific potential of the country includes 89 scientific institutions, including 10 national scientific centers, 32 institutes and the State Scientific Agricultural library, 1 state regional and 2 branch research stations.

It was stressed that for the past two years the Academy has provided scientific support to elaboration of 21 bills, numerous amendments and supplements to the existing legislation, and the draft Strategy for development of the agrarian sector of Ukraine’ economy until 2020.

Attention was attached to the fact that scientists of scientific institutions of the Academy actively work on fulfillment of the National Action Plan of the Government on implementation of main provisions of the Program of the President of Ukraine for 2010-2014 “Prosperous society, competitive economy, and effective state”.

Thereat, however, it was noted that for the past 5 years scientific institutions of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences were financed by the State Budget only within 50-55% of the annual need.

Scientists believe that the Academy can annually receive UAH 200 million from the sale of science-intensive products, which is insufficient for modernization of analytical and material and technical basis of scientific institutions.

Rapporteurs outlined also top priority tasks of the National Academy of the Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine for the nearest future.
